Hiring guide
How to hire in Venezuela as an international company.
This guide covers the decisions in the order you actually face them. It contains no salary figures, because any number quoted without your role, level, location and work pattern would be misleading.
The short answer
An international company can hire in Venezuela in three practical ways: establish a local entity and employ people directly, engage an Employer of Record that employs them on your behalf, or engage people as contractors or on staffing assignments where the work genuinely supports it. Most companies hiring their first people in Venezuela use an Employer of Record or staffing route because it removes entity setup from the critical path. SIVEN recruits the people, operates the chosen route locally, and contracts and invoices through the Gracemark group's United States company.
Step 1 — Decide what the work is
Everything downstream follows from this. Is it ongoing work under your direction, a defined project with an end date, a specialist engaged for a scope, or a function you want delivered and managed for you? Each points to a different arrangement.
Step 2 — Choose the employment route
Three routes, with honest trade-offs.
- Own entity: full control, but registration, administration and ongoing local obligations sit with you, and it takes time before your first hire can start.
- Employer of Record: the fastest route to a properly employed person, with the employment administration handled for you. Best when you want employees but not an entity.
- Contractor or staffing assignment: flexible and quick, but only valid where the substance of the relationship supports it. Misclassification is the common failure here.
Step 3 — Define the role before you search
Responsibilities, level, location, work pattern (onsite, remote or rotational), language requirement and the must-have experience. Roles defined properly are filled faster and attract candidates who stay.
Step 4 — Recruit in the local market
Venezuelan hiring is relationship-driven, and the strongest candidates are usually not applying to postings. Active sourcing and local screening matter more than volume of applications.
Step 5 — Get the costs itemised before you commit
Your proposal separates compensation, applicable employer costs, agreed benefits, service fees and any project-specific expenses. A single blended rate hides which line you can actually control.
Step 6 — Plan for what happens after onboarding
Payroll, changes, time off, equipment, contract amendments and eventual offboarding all need an owner locally. Deciding that at the start avoids the administrative drift that makes international hires expensive.
Your proposal separates compensation, applicable employer costs, agreed benefits, service fees and any project-specific expenses.
Questions buyers ask
- Do I need a legal entity in Venezuela to hire someone?
- No. An Employer of Record or staffing arrangement lets you have people working in Venezuela without registering your own company there. SIVEN clients contract and invoice through the Gracemark group's United States company.
- How long does it take to hire in Venezuela?
- It depends on the role, its seniority and how specialised it is. We give you an expected timeline for your specific roles when we scope the requirement, rather than a generic promise.
- What does it cost to employ someone in Venezuela?
- Cost is made up of compensation, applicable employer costs, agreed benefits, service fees and any project-specific expenses. We quote those lines against your actual roles; we do not publish averages that would not apply to your situation.
- Can I hire someone in Venezuela and pay them from the United States?
- You can pay a single invoice from the Gracemark group's United States company while the person is employed or engaged locally in Venezuela. Paying an individual abroad directly, without a defined arrangement, is the approach we would advise against.
- What is the fastest way to get someone working?
- If you already know who you want, formalising them through Employer of Record or a staffing assignment is the shortest path. If you still need to find them, recruitment runs first and employment follows immediately after.
